Article(s): Mary of Teck, Royal cypher among others.
- Request
- Would anyone be able to please create an SVG file for the cypher used by Queen Mary of the United Kingdom (consort to King George V), as seen here (it's the one on the right, and you'd need to zoom in very close for the exact details). As usual, I'd ask that it follows the same artistic style as the other cyphers provided above, including the exact same depiction of the Tudor Crown. Thanks. - @Snow Lion Fenian: Done. J. Dann (talk) 12:56, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Cypp0847: Thank you profusely for creating these! Just a few small changes before I close this request:
- Based on my own observations of the source image; I'm inclined to believe that the "knot" that winds around the vertical "stem" of the "R" should actually be arranged looping over the "tail", then under the "stem", then back over the "stem" again.
- Also, regarding the line that loops out backwards from the top of the "R" around to the upper-right section of the "M"; I believe the part that runs under the third vertical "pillar" of the "M" should actually be running over it, and that the curved end of the same line should be under the same "pillar" instead of over it.
- What do you think? (Sorry if I haven't explained it very well.) Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 00:55, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Snow Lion Fenian: Let me know if this is what in your mind. Thanks. J. Dann (talk) 07:08, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

- @Snow Lion Fenian: Let me know if this is what in your mind. Thanks. J. Dann (talk) 07:08, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- What do you think? (Sorry if I haven't explained it very well.) Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 00:55, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- The two lines that cross together to form the "knot" beside the "R" are currently shown melded together, when in fact they should be arranged with the upper-right line running above the lower-right "tail" line (sorry I wasn't clearer about that before).
- The parts of the lower-right "tail" of the "R" that extend through the lower-right "tail" of the "M" were actually fine the way they were before, first going over and then going under (rather than going over both times as on the new version).
- And perhaps you could apply all changes to the other cypher you've created well? Sorry for the inconvenience. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 14:32, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Snow Lion Fenian: No problem. Both should resemble what it should have looked like now. J. Dann (talk) 07:24, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Cypp0847: Thanks again! So regarding the "knot" around the "R", the part that loops around the "stem" was actually fine the way it was in the previous version, with the top part over the "stem" and the bottom part under the "stem" (rather than the other way around as on the new version). Also, regarding the two lines that cross together to the right side of the "R" (the ones that were melded together in the previous files) should actually be arranged with the upper-right line running over the lower-right line (and not the other way around as on the current files). Sorry again for the hassle, and indeed for not providing better explanations. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 16:56, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

- Since when are city flags copyright protected? It represents the community, and that's why they are per definition in the public domain. If it had been the flag/logo of the municipal or county organisation, it would've resembled a private company logo, and that might have been a different story. But city flags are supposed to be copied and joyfully used to show that you're pride of your own community. The en:United States Flag Code doesn't talk about copyright either, it only prohibits disrespectful (commercial) use. Groetjes, Peter (talk) 22:19, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Two military colours of Malta
[edit]Article(s): w:Flag of Malta, w:List of flags of Malta, w:Armed Forces of Malta
- Request
- On this page of the AFM website I saw following descriptions for its colour:
The AFM Colour of the Armed Forces of Malta is an oddity amongst military flags within the British tradition. This infantry colour bears the symbols of artillery, which normally would carry no ceremonial flags.
Specifically, it is a red-above-blue bicolour, bearing at the centre the badge of the Royal Malta Artillery (minus Royal Crown), which is the main predecessor of the modern-day Armed Forces of Malta; the motto "TUTELA BELLICAE VIRTUTIS" means "Custodians of Military Prowess". The four corners bear the seven-flamed grenade above the scroll reading "MALTA", tilted 45 degrees.
Currently it carries three battle honours on scrolls, from top to bottom: "MDCCC" (Siege of Valetta 1800); "EGYPT 1882"; and (below the motto) "MALTA 1942". All emblems are in gold, with the exception of the Maltese Cross of the RMA badge, which is white. Red sleeve; golden fringe, cord and tassels; black pole with a silver finial in the form of a hollowed spearhead bearing a Maltese Cross.- In addition, there is also the description for its presidential colour:
The Armed Forces of Malta's Presidential Colour is the National Flag with a yellow de Redin Tower at the centre, above a yellow scroll reading "FORZI ARMATI". Red sleeve; golden fringe, cord and tassels; black pole with a silver finial in the form of a hollowed spearhead bearing a Maltese Cross.

- Commons' default Chinese font and several other fonts do not have vertical escapements.
- I added the font Noto Sans CJK SC (simplified Chinese). If you want traditional, we can use AR PL Ukai TW.
- Glrx (talk) 20:19, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx I would like traditional, as this is actually written in Japanese, not Chinese. There also seems to be a spacing issue with rendering though, since if I look here I can see the right side font kind of colliding with the center. Thank you. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 07:20, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Immanuelle:
- I set the alignment-baseline to central and removed dominant-baseline: text-after-edge. Does that fix the spacing issue?
- I set the fonts to Noto Sans JP, Noto Sans CJK JP, AR PL Ukai TW, Noto Sans CJK SC, sans-serif (the original SVG specifies sans-serif).
- The file also uses a lot of spaces to set the text position....

- I got a clickable image. But I am not sure if we could change languages or something there Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 16:36, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Immanuelle: Links are only active when the SVG file is displayed. On wiki pages, a PNG file is displayed instead. By changing languages, do you mean changing the targets of links? (e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namu_My%C5%8Dh%C5%8D_Renge_Ky%C5%8D to point to another wiki?) That would be relatively hard and contorted. Making the links point to WikiData would be possible; then the user could click a link to view a wiki article. Better would be a WikiData link that redirected to a wiki article in the user's language. (IIRC, there was a request for such links but I do not think they exist.) Or do you mean you want to translate the Chinese characters to other languages? Glrx (talk) 16:34, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Glrx yeah that functionality would be good.
- The icon is always written in Japanese in all churches/temples whether they do their services in Japanese, English, or other languages. But letting people click the names and redirect to their language articles from wikidata would be great, especially since it means the image would not need to be edited in the future when new language articles get added.
- We could make an english language version of this too, honestly it is a bit difficult for me because I am bilingual enough that I would not know what a monolingual person would want. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 05:26, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

- @SnowyCinema: The PDF contains 312 images (ranging from small empty pages of about 70KB to large pages of around 3MB, totaling 251MB). The PDF itself is 208MB in size, meaning that some compression has already been applied. I’m not sure how the PDF could be compressed further without reducing the quality of the individual images. I used Ghostscript to compress the PDF (option: 'ebook'), and in my opinion, the text is still sufficiently readable. I uploaded the PDF, now about 80MB in size. Unfortunately, I don't have any better images of these coats of arms, in case of the coat of arms of Nam Định it might be better to make it black and white like this. - Addendum, originally I requested the file names as the following:
<gallery> File:Coat of arms of Hải Dương.svg|Requested file (Hải Dương). File:Coat of arms of Nam Định.svg|Requested file (Nam Định). </gallery>
- This being "File:Coat of arms of Hải Dương.svg" and "File:Coat of arms of Nam Định.svg", respectively. But I think that it might be better to change the Nam Định one to "File:Coat of arms of Nam Định (black and white).svg", so we have "a base coat of arms" for after I (or someone else) find(s) the (true) colours of the coat of arms of Nam Định in the future. So, the desired file name should include "(black and white)". --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:26, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Norro 8 and 9 icons
[edit]- Request
- Hi. I'm requesting a new addition to the Norro style 1 icons, the numbers 8 and 9. Thanks! It's also weird how there's icons for 484 and 88, but not for the two most commonly-used digits... '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talk • contribs) 07:10, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Moa SVG element not rendering on Commons
[edit]-
Original SVG file moa element was extracted from
-
Moa element as extracted from Wellington Coat Of Arms.svg (not currently rendering on Commons)
-
Image of the old Wellington coat of arms using said element, which should be showing as the supporter on the right
- Request
- I recently uploaded a couple of files (see above) using an element, the Moa supporter, extracted from File:Wellington Coat Of Arms.svg. However, while it appears as it should when I view it in inkscape, the moa is not showing now that it has been uploaded to Commons. I'm not sure what I did, but I must have accidentally broken something when extracting it from the original image. I can't seem to work out how to fix it myself (I'm not too experienced with this stuff). Could someone please fix it? Thanks.--Radicuil (talk) 08:16, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- The SVG has dozens of illegal clipPath elements such as
<clipPath clipPathUnits="userSpaceOnUse" id="clipPath58005"> <g id="g58009"> <path style="fill:#020203;fill-opacity:1;fill-rule:evenodd;stroke:#ffffff;stroke-width:0.834" d="m 32.88307,20.70416 c ... z" id="path58007" inkscape:path-effect="#path-effect47831" inkscape:original-d="m 32.88307,20.70416 c ... z" /> </g> </clipPath>
- The clipPath element may not have a g element child. That is a common bug/issue with Inkscape.
