Usage of P793

[edit]

You added some statements with the significant event (P793) property. I think that is not what this property is for. I think you should use the standard depicts (P180) instead. --GPSLeo (talk) 10:21, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think the usage of significant event (P793) property is correct, because the photos are depicting people in the context of the parade. Other commons user recommended that I used that property. --Scann (talk) 14:28, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If that property would have the label "event" and an other description I would agree. But now it seems to be meant for events associated to a subject. I think with this description this property should not be used on commons. --GPSLeo (talk) 15:59, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You might be right. I think this is a question of [modeling]. I can go back and try to remove the Property. I'm reluctant to put that it depicts the parade because it's actually depicting other things. --Scann (talk) 16:09, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would say a portrait of a speaker at an event does depict the event. For frequent events it would be the best to create an item for every single event. --GPSLeo (talk) 16:22, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Digitization in Brazil

[edit]

Hi Scann,

My name is Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton, I'm a long time contributor of Wikimedia Movement.

I want to know how are the things Wikimedia Digitization User Group. I have giant digitization in Brazil more than 200'000 documents in the first step, having five more to accomplish. I'm predicting a 4 years project at least.

I want to know how can I be part of the WUG and can get some support. I already did a digitization of a Brazilian museum, but it was a very different project, much closer than my skills as a photographer. We also have in Brazil another GLAMs, but not one like this, that we will have to scan, categorize and upload.

Do you guys have a channel to start a conversation? Thank you. -- Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 22:00, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rodrigo, yes, there's a channel on Telegram but it's really not very active (and I can't find the link right now, but if you ping me on Telegram (@scanno) I can add you). Would love to talk about your project! You might also want to reach out to Alex Stinson to ask for help. --Scann (talk) 16:07, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
File:Petrona rosende.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
